Hello and welcome, Kieran from Above Average Coffee here to bring you another Moka Pot Monday! As always, this email is broken down into 3 points, a coffee tip, a coffee read, and a coffee recommendation, with that said let's get started.
Some of you got in touch wanting me to link straight to the coffee recommendation at the top so here it is. Check out this week's coffee pick - Our Coffee Of The Month Methodical Coffee.
1. Look Out For The Co2 Valve On Coffee Bags
Ever wondered what the little white circular seal on your coffee bag is for? It's designed to allow Carbon Dioxide to escape without letting Oxygen back into the bag.
Coffee off-gasses CO2 after it's roasted. It's natural. It's what causes the coffee bloom and in short, it stops the bag from bursting and keeps the coffee fresher.
You should look for it on the coffee bag because it shows that coffee is freshly roasted. The coffee roaster needs to think about the off-gassing, and it shows they care enough to package their coffee in the best possible manner.
2. Coffee Growing in the USA
Climate change is causing havoc all over the world, there's no question about that. One thing it has allowed is that it's now more than ever possible to grow coffee in the USA.
So far it's just in California and Florida with coffee selling at $80 for a 5-ounce bag but it's an interesting development.
