When new Scratchers join the Scratch website, they often have questions...

  • What is Scratch, and what can I do with it?
  • How do I get started Scratching?
  • How can I meet other Scratchers on the website?

The Welcoming Committee can help answer these questions by welcoming New Scratchers through projects in the Welcoming Committee studio. Let check out mission of welcome committee.

Welcoming Committee

  • Welcoming Committee was created in August 2012.
  • The intention was to show New Scratchers a connect link on their My Stuff page.
  • This led to a random Welcome to Scratch project.

How it Works

  • When a Scratcher creates a project welcoming New Scratchers, they can add it to the submissions studio.
  • A Welcoming Committee curator or reviewer will view the project and give suggestions for changes until it is ready for the main studio.
  • This is sometimes known as the review process.
  • Once the project is accepted, the creator is a member of the Scratch Welcoming Committee and their project is added to the Main Studio.
  • Members are not invited to curate.
  • New Scratchers cannot submit projects.
  • Members of the Welcoming Committee are expected to help, greet, and answer questions that new members might have in their welcoming projects' comments.

How to Join

  • Any Scratcher can join the Welcoming Committee!
  • However, New Scratchers will need to gain Scratcher status before joining.
  • First, create a project to welcome new Scratchers. It should
    • Be friendly, welcoming, and enthusiastic.
    • Describe something that you like about Scratch.
    • Invite New Scratchers to comment on the project to introduce themselves and ask questions.
    • Include a brief introduction to Scratch.
    • Link to the Scratch Wiki, the Scratch Discussion Forums and some other helpful places.

Finally, have fun to welcome new members to scratch. Show them around with your project. Take care and stay safe.
