As a first year undergraduate of University Of Moratuwa, I would like to share about my level 1 hardware project idea with you all. For our level 1 project, we have proposed an automated secured bank vault room.

Bank vault is a secure place where valuables of banks (pawned jewelry, money, and other documents) are stored with limited access. The bank vault door should comprise high security standard lock system as it's intended to protect contents stored inside from theft or any unauthorized access.

Now a days, banks are using manual security to protect their vault room. They are protecting their vault room, only through physical securities such as dual key. But there are some real circumstances, theft occur due to the handling of dual keys by the same person. (Due to the laziness, one person gives his/her key to that other person). And when following the physical securities, people are reluctant to follow all the rules to access bank vault room. (For e.g.- Vault room can be access once in an hour). But in our project, we are trying to provide operational and management level securities in addition to physical securities, so that we can provide fully secured automated doors for bank vault room. 

  1. Aim 
  • To design and develop Highly secured Bank vault room door which can prevent any kind of unauthorized access. 
  1. Objectives 

  • To provide access to vault room during Monday to Saturday from 8 am to 6 pm only using RTC module
  • To check the validity of 2 fingerprints of 2 authorized bank staffs for opening the door using fingerprint sensor. (Dual fingerprints have to be matched)
  • To provide the security (fingerprint and password) for accessing special conditions only by manager using fingerprint sensor and keypad. 
  • To allow only 2 people (Bank rules) inside the vault room using 2 IR sensors (Bidirectional visitor counter). 
  • To allow only 15 minutes of time (Bank rules) inside the vault room for single access using RTC module. 
  • To avoid frequent accessing of vault room using RTC module (re-accessing is restricted once per hour – Bank rules).  
  • To inform manager regarding the time of access through messages using GSM module. 
  • To detect presence of any human activities in unauthorized time (Night-time from Monday to Saturday and Sunday) using PIR sensor. 
  • To provide additional security with the help of switch button to open the door from the inside within given time as it is closed right after the count reaches the allowed number (2) 
  • To provide alert when unauthorized access is detected, using Buzzer and GSM module to make alert calls (to 3 authorities).
