We have so far discussed why you should choose blogging and the ABC of blogging. If you haven't been following our discussion, I will advise that you check up on those posts. In this thread, we shall be focusing on how to create a blog for free and make money.
So far from our discussion, I made you aware that to create a blog, you need the following.
- A domain
- A host
- A blogging platform (WordPress)
- A theme
Creating a blog now is just like putting up all these together to make something meaningful. I guess you understand. Let's get into business.

Buy Your domain name
Visit the domain registrar of your choice and buy your domain. Before you buy your domain, you need to check the availability of the domain name of your choice. Your domain name should not be too long, easy to remember and may contain the niche. For example, if you want to write on tech, your domain name can be http://www.exampletech.com or http://www.techexample.com.
Choosing an easy to remember domain name goes a very long way as it will make your visitors easily remember your URL whenever they might want to come back.
When you finally find out that the domain name you choose is available, the amount at which the registrar will sell it should be attached and displayed to you on the screen. Proceed by adding to the cart and by purchasing it while entering the necessary details.
After purchasing your domain name, you need to point the domain name to your nameservers from your host. If you have a host ready, get the nameservers and point the domain name to it immediately. If not, proceed to number 2.

Buy your host
Most domain name registrars also provide hosting plans. As a person who chooses to create a blog, choose shared hosting and opt-in for any plan of your choice. Some plans might be costly if you have enough money, you should go for them. But if not, go for the cheaper ones.
Select the hosting plan of your choice and pay the required amount. Before the payment or during the process, you would have been required to register with some credentials. You will use this credential to log in to your host after successfully paying the prescribed fee.
If you are a newbie, I will advise that you choose the same company as your domain registrar and host provider should if you run into a problem. You will be able to contact the company quickly while they help you straighten things out.
After buying your host, do well to point the domain name you've purchased to your host by providing the host's nameservers to the domain. This immediately tells any browser trying to visit your blog where it is located. But remember that you only have a domain name and host, no blog yet.
After pointing to the nameservers, the next thing to do is add your domain to the host. From your client area, click on add domain and enter the domain name you have pointed to. If you did it well and correctly, it should be successful. But if otherwise, you need to trace your mistake.

Integrate WordPress on the Blog
Now, the next thing to do is to integrate WordPress into your blog. There are a lot of blogging platforms you may consider, but I prefer WordPress basically for a lot of reasons which we shall discuss at other times.
To integrate WordPress from the client area on your host service provider, find Softaculous or one-click installer or any equivalent name was given to it by your host, click on it and choose WordPress. Enter the URL of the domain in question and enter other details. You need to enter declare the administrator username and password for easier access to the back-end. After this, click submit.
WordPress should be integrated into the domain within seconds depending on your connectivity if you have done everything correctly. After it has been created, the installer will generate an administrative URL for you. Ensure you right-click on the link and open it in another tab. This should take you to your blog's back-end immediately.

Upload a theme
Try visiting your URL, and you will see now that it is taking you to a blog on a default WordPress theme. This is too common and might not serve your purpose. If you have a theme you have bought, you can upload it and edit it to your taste. But if not, there are a lot of free themes you can choose from on WordPress. Although, these free themes may not be too helpful as you may not access some essential functions.
But if you don't have much money to buy a theme, try one of the free themes for the moment.
To upload a theme or use a free theme, click on themes from your dashboard on the back-end of your blog. You will see new themes you can choose from. But if you have bought a theme, select upload theme. Get your theme uploaded and activated. You can edit the functionality of your theme as you may like it.
Congratulations on successfully creating your blog for free. Now, you can monetise your blog your preferred way and make real money with your content.
