The crew of the world's first-ever all-civilian rocket ride to orbit is already training for September's launch aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft.
Shift4 Payments CEO Jared Isaacman, commander of the upcoming Inspiration4 mission, this week tweeted the first photos showing the four crew members in their spacesuits. "Another week of training wrapped up at SpaceX for the Inspiration4 crew," Isaacman wrote in a message accompanying the photos.
The Inspiration4 mission was announced in February 2021 after Isaacman secured the exclusive flight in a private deal with SpaceX. Part of the mission's aim is to highlight the work of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, and to raise money for the facility. Isaacman himself has already pledged $100 million to the hospital and is hoping others also will donate what they can. |

After nearly a year of bad news, there are signs that the GPU shortage is ending. Following a report last week about falling prices in Europe, 3DCenter has put out a new report showing a boost in GPU supply at European retailers, as well as lower prices.
Lower prices are relative given the horrible state of the graphics card market. The average price of Nvidia cards dropped from a peak of 204% above MSRP to 91% above MSRP. The report also shows a large improvement in the number of Nvidia cards available. Short of the Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti, which is still experiencing stock issues, the entire Ampere range is available across most retailers in Europe, according to the report.
Nvidia is also reportedly bolstering production of RTX 30-series graphics cards, likely capitalizing on the opportunity to return the GPU market to normal. Although 3DCenter's report indicates things are heading in that direction, stable prices are still many months off. The price of DRAM modules is expected to increase throughout the year, which could drive up GPU prices. Cards imported into the U.S. are also subject to tariffs, too, which have steadily increased prices in the U.S. over the past several months. |

Volocopter put its VoloCity eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft in French skies recently and said it could be ready to launch passenger services at the Paris Olympics three years from now.
The German company behind the 18-rotor, two-seat aircraft has been refining its design for the last decade as it competes with a slew of other firms exploring the urban mobility market. Volocopter's latest test run, shown in the video above, took place at Paris-Le Bourget Airport during this month's Paris Air Forum.
During the flawless flight, the machine covered a distance of 500 meters while traveling at speeds of up to 19 mph (30 kph) at an altitude of 98 feet (30 meters). |

Connecting your iPhone to certain strangely named Wi-Fi networks may leave you without internet access until your phone's network settings are wiped, as discovered by security researcher Carl Schou last week. This newly discovered bug would break your phone's Wi-Fi settings, restricting you from enabling your Wi-Fi in some cases, or from connecting to older Wi-Fi networks in others.
"After joining my personal [Wi-Fi] with the SSID "%p%s%s%s%s%n", my iPhone permanently disabled its Wi-Fi functionality. Neither rebooting nor changing SSID fixes it :~)," Schou tweeted. Reporting on this issue, Bleeping Computer also found that the bug affected iPhones running on operating systems as recent as iOS 14.6.
The root cause of this issue has been attributed to a format string error. This means that iOS is reading the text in the name as a command to execute due to the presence of the "%" symbol and then crashing upon failing. The bug does not exist on Android phones. |
