Hey coffee lover,
Does the Aeropress make espresso?
The answer isn't quite as straightforward as you'd expect. There is actually no firm definition of an espresso. For decades, we've worked with the same rough guideline (9 bars of pressure, fine grounds, 25 - 30 s extraction time). But if you read my turbo shot email, you'll know that those rules aren't set in stone.
That said, I don't think the Aeropress makes espresso. It makes a lovely strong shot of smooth coffee.
Does the JoePresso turn your Aeropress into an espresso maker?
My vote is still no, but it gets you a lot closer. Thanks to the pressurized filter, it gives your Aeropress brew more body, a heavier mouthfeel, and even a hint of crema. In fact, if you're making something like a cappuccino or an iced latte, you might not even notice the difference vs "real" espresso.
To me, whether or not the JoePresso attachment turns your Aeropress into an espresso maker isn't the point. It expands the versatility of the Aeropress by brewing a different style of coffee -- and at a pretty affordable price. That makes it a worthwhile buy, in my book.
