Hey coffee lover,
I always love working with ECM espresso machines. Regardless of the model, I know I'll be dealing with something beautifully engineered that makes great espresso. Sure, there's always a learning curve with a new machine. But with ECM, you're never faced with tiny frustrations from quality or design issues beyond your control.
All that preamble is to say that you should definitely check out the ECM Mechanika Slim if you're in the market for a prosumer espresso machine.
The "Slim" in the name refers to the fact that this model is less than 10 inches wide, all the more remarkable given that it houses a 2.2-liter heat exchange boiler! That's a whopping amount of steam power in a very small footprint, akin to much larger commercial machines.
Other nice touches include dual pressure gauges at the top of the machine for easy viewing, an accessible OPV, and the option to add a flow control valve to the E61 group at no extra cost.
Some possible downsides? No rotary pump or direct-plumb option, no PID, and of course, high price is always a factor with this level of equipment.
