Today about 1.3M people live in Timor-Leste, and poverty remains widespread. | | "Timor-Leste's competitive advantages and disadvantages all point to one future: higher value from price differentiation or specialty coffee." - Andrew Hetzel, Timor-Leste Industry Association Analysis 2016, for ADB | | As the country finds stability, the development of the agriculture sector, coffee, to be exact, is now the leading focus and future promise towards the economic security of this country. With the help of our partners, social enterprise Raw Material, the Raimutin Wet Mill - the first custom wet mill and processing centre in Timor Leste was built in 2018, in Atsabe, Ermera. All designed in-house, this processing centre uses gravity to move coffee through stages; no double handling, no unnecessary machinery. Four years on, it now has successfully served as a central hub for processing the cherry of the local producers, and hundreds of families connected with the Atsabe community wet mill generate at least 75% more profit from the coffee. | | Raimutin Wet Mill, Atsabe District | | This fantastic coffee is named after the Raimutin suco (village) community, farmers deliver and process cherries daily at the Atsabe processing station in Baboe Kraik, an area sitting on an elevation of 1400MASL. Raimutin is a honey processed coffee made up of unique local hybrid varieties. This is the start of something big. We are incredibly excited for the overture of recognition for our neighbouring regions and will continue supporting Raw Material towards achieving its goals of enabling economic freedom for people working in coffee and improving local livelihood and community wellbeing. | | Raimutin, Timor-Leste | SGD 21.00 | We taste Honey, Red Berry and Chocolate Caramel. | | | | | Finca Villaure, Guatemala | | Aurelio's commitment to holding the highest standard of coffee quality and agricultural discipline is as inspiring as his coffees, we are stoked to be able to feature their 2021 harvest as part of our lineup. Recognising the legacy and significance of coffee in Guatemala, Aurelio knew his dream was to own his own farm from a young age. After a year away to further his education, he returned home and reunited with his father to learn all about coffee from the most experienced farmer he knew. To date, he's competed in four 'Cup Of Excellence' auctions, received several national and international awards, and even has been cited as 'Best Farmer in Guatemala' and 'Best Farmer in Huehuetenango'. | | This 2021 harvest came with unpredictable rainfall resulting in smaller yields for the year, on top of difficulties with labour shortage for pickers across the country. However, our partners at Coffeebird are dedicated to supporting their farming partners through good and bad times, ensuring the high-quality coffees they produce continue to be valuable and sustainable opportunities. | | Finca Villaure, Guatemala | SGD 16.00 - SGD 56.00 | We taste Stonefruit, Cherry and Starfruit | | | | | A distinguishably complex washed Ethiopian and one of our first encounters with a single-owner farm in Ethiopia, back in 2017. Tade GG is the pride and joy of Tesfaye Bekele. He has travelled and experienced first-hand some of the best practices by established producers in Central and South America. Although it's not a region-scale co-operative, the quality that Tesfaye conveys with his coffee is evidence of expertise in processing and his careful use of the terroir. Tesfaye's coffee has been in numerous spotlights, as the coffee-of-choice in recognised events such as roasting competitions and the Ethiopian Cup of Excellence. This clean, tropical, structured coffee is a specific expression of what coffees from the Oromia - and wider Guji - region are capable of presenting in the cup and we are proud that we are able to represent Tade GG for 5 years and going. | | Tade GG, Ethiopia | SGD 23.00 | We taste Guava, Roasted Peach and Apricot | | | | | | | |
