It's one of the catch 22s of the Internet in 2021. OnlyFans will ban explicit content in October, although it's weird underground of sex is what made it worth $1 Billion. However it's been unable to attract any investors even though it apparently has traffic. I think the shady part of Tumblr moved to OnlyFans, but now what?
The platform was not built specifically for porn but that has grown to be its most popular and visible use case, but pressure from "banking partners and payout providers" means the company will have to leave the adult content world behind and focus solely on SFW material going forward. Define SFW in a remote work world? Define how the creator economy is going to survive without their kinky cash-cow?
It's been a weird haven in the pandemic. For oh so lonely souls who don't know where to go on an internet (I mean metaverse) that's increasingly become boring. OnlyFans was a paradise cash earning utopia for wannabe adult performers, and exhibitionists looking to cash in on their kink.
Effective 1 October, 2021, OnlyFans will prohibit the posting of any content containing sexually-explicit conduct. In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform, and to continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines. Creators will continue to be allowed to post content containing nudity as long as it is consistent with our Acceptable Use Policy.
These changes are to comply with the requests of our banking partners and payout providers.
We will be sharing more details in the coming days and we will actively support and guide our creators through this change in content guidelines.
It sounds like OnlyFans will have sexy pivot into only conditional nudity allowed. The metaverse is getting really boring! It's just so perverse what the world is becoming in the TikTok era which isn't much better than what the Instagram era was before that. Tumblr or OnlyFans or ? But a platform has got to eat, just not before bed.
GenZ is abandoning Banks for FinTech and crypto but that explicit content is a no-show. The company said in a statement that it would block users from posting explicit photos and videos at the request of its "banking partners and payout providers." Go figure, that's a hilarious statement of intent! Given that the majority of its revenue and reputation is just that alt porn that isn't really pornographic, well kinda.
It's sad what venture capital pressure does to a company. OnlyFans has been pressured into no sex, kind of like GenZ isn't into sex, just watching it, kinda. The change comes as OnlyFans has struggled to secure funding from investors who are hesitant to associate with the company's sexually explicit material, Axios reported.
I don't know what to make of this but the internet is becoming a dystopia. First with OnlyFans, now somehow without what made it good for some people. Even the internet during the pandemic can't make up its mind what it wants to be.
How lonely was the pandemic and there was OnlyFans. The OnlyFans platform has become the de facto standard for independent creators doing adult content. Meanwhile a lot of adult content has become more lame as crackdowns on content continues. Critics of the move pointed out that it will reduce income for sex workers who helped make the site popular. A lot of skilled people apparently realized they could make more money on OnlyFans and quit their jobs to live a life of leisure and exhibitionism. Well not any more! Busted.
OnlyFans leaving adult content behind is like a sad meme on Reddit I'll never actually see. Namely because OnlyFans and Reddit feel or felt like a part of the internet I didn't actually want to visit. Let's just ban all that made us good. The company already blocks posts containing sexual assault, violence or bestiality, and it bars minors from the platform. Let's also ban sex, of course! How dumb does 2021 feel?
