Back in the days of the Space Race, the two main opposing sides were America and the Soviet Union, as they jostled to achieve space superiority. Today, in the age of private spaceflight, much of the focus is on Elon Musk's SpaceX, Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin, and Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic: The battle of three billionaires whose ambitions are too big to remain tethered to Earth's gravitational pull.
But just like there were more space agencies than NASA and the Soviet space program during the Cold War, there are other promising private space companies today. One of the most exciting is Relativity Space, a Los Angeles-based 3D-printed rocket startup co-founded in 2015 by Tim Ellis and Jordan Noone. With its stated mission objective of "Building Humanity's Multi-Planetary Future," the up-and-coming space company recently raised another $650 million in Series E funding.
Relativity's 31-year-old CEO Tim Ellis fielded questions from Digital Trends about everything from the new heavy-lift rocket, Terran R, to building Lego spaceships as a kid. |

Following months of speculation, Netflix has signaled its intent to move into gaming after confirming the hiring of Mike Verdu, a major figure in the gaming industry with high-level experience at the likes of Facebook-owned Oculus, Electronic Arts, Zynga, and Atari.
Verdu is being brought in to build and lead a team at Netflix geared toward game publishing, the video streaming giant confirmed to multiple media outlets on Wednesday, July 14. Netflix is yet to make an official announcement about the precise nature of its gaming ambitions, but well-connected Mark Gurman of Bloomberg said the company is aiming to start offering games to subscribers on its platform "within the next year."
A person with knowledge of the matter told Gurman that Netflix isn't planning to charge extra for the gaming content, meaning that current subscribers will get a lot more bang for their buck — if they're into gaming, that is.
Verdu will be reporting to Netflix chief operating officer Greg Peters, who during a recent earnings call hinted at the company's gaming ambitions, saying there was "no doubt that games are going to be an important form of entertainment and an important sort of modality to deepen that fan experience." |

It's been 25 years since basketball legend Michael Jordan teamed up with Bugs Bunny and various other Looney Tunes characters in Space Jam, a big-screen blend of live-action and animation that broke new ground — and a few box-office records — with its mash-up of cultural icons.
Arriving in theaters and on streaming service HBO Max this week, Space Jam: A New Legacy goes back to that well, but this time around it's four-time MVP LeBron James, whose accomplishments have earned him frequent comparisons to Jordan, teaming up with Bugs and the Tune Squad. Directed by Malcolm D. Lee, Space Jam: A New Legacy has James — portraying a fictional version of himself — join the Tune Squad for a high-stakes game in order to rescue his son from a diabolical A.I. within the Warner Bros. servers.
Digital Trends spoke to Lee, the director of the critically acclaimed 1999 romantic comedy The Best Man and its 2013 sequel, as well as 2017's hit comedy Girls Trip, about the experience of diving into the world of animation and the massive Warner Bros. vault, and directing a global icon in his first leading role. |

TIPS, TRICKS, & TECHNIQUES |
There's nothing worse than your phone running slowly, apps crashing or freezing, or pages failing to load in your web browser. Did you realize that the problem could be caused by your phone's cache? The cache is made up of small pieces of information stored by your web browsers and apps in order to improve performance, and when cached files become overloaded or corrupted, performance issues are often the result. So, like those laggy web pages, crashing apps, or stuttering games. Don't worry — there's a quick and easy way to clear your cache on Android, and we're about to show you how.
If this doesn't help the situation, you might want to try restarting your phone in safe mode to determine if it's a third-party app that's causing your performance issues. And if all else fails, performing a factory reset may be your best option. Although it will wipe all your data, so don't forget to backup everything first! |
