Step 1 - Get ready Make sure the filter is clean and warm your cafetière pot by rinsing it with hot water. Step 2 - Measuring Take your freshly ground (coarse) coffee and measure out 1 heaped tablespoon (about 7 grams) per cup - don't shy away from serving big portions, the amount of coffee can be the difference between a great pot and a terrible one! For a standard large cafetiere, which is 1L, you'll need between 50-60grams of coffee, which is 8 heaped teaspoons. Step 3 - Temperature Once your water has boiled let it rest for a minute before pouring. Too hot and you'll spoil the flavour. Step 4 - Pour Slowly pour in the water until the pot is half full, stir, then fill up the pot with the rest of the water Step 5 - Wait Wait for exactly 4 mins - set a timer and do some meditation or exercise whilst you wait! Step 6 - Plunge Plunge and pour straight into your cups Ben & Alice's top tips Get yourself a measuring spoon to achieve the perfect of 7 grams! An average "cup" in the cafetière world is 125ml, but most of us drink bigger cups, so when buying an 8-cup cafetière remember this will get you around 4-5 real "cups"... | | | | |
