With over 75 million followers across social media platforms, viral magician and filmmaker Zach King isn't worried about growth so much. He's more concerned with keeping his audience entertained than watching his follower count.
King got his start on YouTube in 2011, but blew up on Vine, the six-second video app many call the precursor to TikTok. He credits a lot of his success to the app but has been able to successfully build up his audiences across social media. There was a time when creators only had one platform they excelled at — like being a YouTuber or Instagram influencer — but King has managed to become a pioneer at being one of the top creators on every platform, old and new. It's rare to come across a video of King's that doesn't have a couple hundred thousand views — or millions. He still has the most-watched and most-liked video of all time on TikTok (2.2 billion).
At his core, King is an illusionist, but one that isn't too keen on keeping the illusions all to himself. What makes King different from other magicians, online and off, is that he gives his viewers a peek inside how the magic is created — the props, the mirrors, the set design, the camera work, and the software. Digital Trends spoke to King about his decade-long career, how he finds inspiration, and the ever-changing nature of social media. |

Sonos first portable speaker -- the $399 Sonos Move -- is a very capable wireless speaker. When at home, it can connect to the rest of your Sonos gear, and its built-in microphone lets it act as a Google- or Alexa-powered smart speaker. On the road, its Bluetooth radio and 10-hour rechargeable battery makes for a powerful, portable sound system. Well, maybe not that portable.
In truth, as good as the Move is, it's never going to be a grab-and-go speaker because it's simply too big and too heavy. Going from the living room to the patio? Grab the Move. Going from the patio to the park? That's a different story.
But now we have the $169 Sonos Roam. It's got all of the Move's capabilities (and then some), but it's a fraction of the Move's size, weight, and price. Does this make the Roam a no-brainer purchase for Sonos fans? Let's check it out. |

One of the pleasant surprises in this year's list of Oscar nominees is Love and Monsters, director Michael Matthews' charming romantic adventure set in a post-apocalyptic world filled with gigantic, man-eating creatures.
Nominated for an Oscar in the Best Visual Effects category, Love and Monsters follows a young man (played by The Maze Runner star Dylan O'Brien) who decides to leave his underground bunker and embark on a dangerous journey to reunite with his girlfriend in another bunker miles away. In order to do so, he must traverse a landscape filled with mutated bullfrogs, centipedes, snails, and other now-deadly creatures that forced humanity underground.
Matt Sloan, the visual effects supervisor on Love and Monsters, worked with Matthews and a talented team of practical and creature effects artists to realize this familiar-but-deadly vision of a California landscape filled with carnivorous dangers around every turn. Digital Trends spoke to Sloan about his work on Love and Monsters and the film's Oscar nomination. |
