The competition is named after the AeroPress, a plastic coffee brewing device invented by Alan Adler, who also created the Aerobie (yes, the flying disk). Not only is it seemingly unbreakable, making it a companion of choice for camping trips, it’s also a very versatile brewer, at the intersection of immersion, pressurized and filter brewing. The AeroPress Championships were created in 2008 in Oslo, Norway, and are now run in more than 60 countries around the world, including New Zealand. The winner of this year’s edition will be flown to Melbourne, where the World Finale will take place on the 2nd -3rd December. What to expect: The AeroPress Championship is a light-hearted and resolutely fun competition for geeks and home-brewers alike. The rules are simple: each competitor receives the same coffee and has to create a recipe using an AeroPress. They then brew and serve their creation on stage in knock-out rounds to a panel of judges who simply have to pick their favourite cup. No need to be an expert brewer to have a good time - there’ll be drinks from our mates at Urbanaut, Alba, AF Drinks and wines from the Everyday Wine catalog.
