Hey coffee lover,
For over 40 years, Starbucks had one espresso blend, the Signature. It has the classic espresso profile -- chocolate, nuts, caramel, roasty, earthy -- made by combining dark roast beans from Latin America and the Asia Pacific.
Finally, in 2018, in response to evolving coffee tastes, they released a second option to much fanfare, the Starbucks Blonde Espresso. While they didn't exactly hop on the specialty coffee light roast trend, the Blonde Espresso represents a significant departure from the Signature.
It's a medium roast (don't let the "blonde" name fool you) and adds Ethiopian beans to the mix for brighter flavors. It's profile is less chocolate-and-nut and more chocolate-and-fruit.
It's not wildly complex, but it's a crowd-pleasing way to expand the coffee palate of millions of Starbucks visitors. We are here for it!
The Blonde Espresso has since become the foundation of many of Starbucks most popular espresso drinks, like the Honey Almondmilk Flat White and Iced Toasted Vanilla Oatmilk Shaken Espresso.
