The Stone Espresso Machine was announced with a lot of hype in 2022. Stone is an off-shoot of the famous Milan-based Rocket Espresso, so the coffee world immediately took notice of the fledgling brand.
And I was lucky enough to get my hands on an early model to give it a thorough test run!
The aim of Stone Espresso was to appeal to younger consumers, to deliver Rocket\s legendary quality in a smaller, easier to use, and more affordable package. It has an impressively compact footprint that doesn't look out of place even in my little condo, and it sports a sleek modern design.
The most impressive feature is definitely the dual-element heating system, which uses a separate element to heat the group. The result is a heat exchanger espresso machine that heats up in less than 15 minutes and doesn't require any finicky temperature control techniques.
Of course, there are always trade-offs when your goal is to make something small and affordable. Some features of larger models are missing, there are a few more plastic parts than I'd like, and the water reservoir is tiny.
