Hey coffee lover,
Great food and drink is all about balance. Sweet, salty, savory, sour, bitter, smooth, crunchy -- the interplay of flavors and textures excites the palate and keeps you going back for more.
The negroni cocktail is a classic example of balance. Combining equal parts Campari, gin, and sweet vermouth, it's a feast for the senses that's more than the sum of its parts.
So we wanted to be very careful not to lose that equilibrium when designing our espresso negroni cocktail. Just adding a shot of espresso could easily skew it towards the bitter end of the spectrum.
The answer, as is so often the case, turned out to be more booze. Specifically, we added a touch of sweet cold brew coffee liqueur. It ramped up the coffee flavor while keeping the ratio of sweetness and bitterness just right.
If you're looking for a sophisticated coffee cocktail to impress your brunch guests, you'll find the answer in this...
Don't forget the orange twist garnish for a hint of brightness and tang!
