In an era of sky-high airfares, there's no shortage of travel hacks. But few have got airlines as riled up as "skiplagging." Skiplagging involves booking a flight with a layover in the intended destination city. When the traveler arrives at the layover point, they simply ditch the second leg of the journey. People are saving hundreds using this strategy, so we broke down how to do it. But also, you might want to be careful. Though the strategy is legal, air carriers aren't afraid to take action against people it catches trying the hack. Some airlines, including American, even include language in their contracts prohibiting customers from "purchasing a ticket without intending to fly all flights to gain lower fares." For many, however, it's worth the risk to save a few hundred dollars. One frequent flyer who's been skiplagging for decades told Insider: "Ultimately, I have no remorse and no angst." |
