Hey coffee lover,
Guinea is not a well-known coffee growing region. Indeed, it's so obscure that Google tends to think you mean Papua New Guinea when you search for more information.
However, it has incredible potential in the form of high-quality Robusta coffee beans.
If you're a bit of a coffee nerd, you probably know that Robusta coffee is considered inferior to Arabica -- less sweetness, acidity, and complexity. But Robusta plants are popular with farmers because, true to the name, they're robust. They're easier to grow in a variety of conditions and with fewer inputs like fertilizers and irrigation.
Every coffee farmer must choose between Robusta and Arabica, which is harder to grow but fetches higher prices. As climate change and economic crises increase, that choice gets more difficult. But perhaps not in Guinea!
Guinea's Macenta Robusta has the potential for specialty status. It is descirbed as sweet, acidic, and with little bitterness.
So far, the Guinea coffee industry has had little external support and lacks proper infrasctruture for specialty production. If that changes, who knows what the future could hold!
