Hey, Do you want to get more from Computer Vision, OpenCV, or Deep Learning? Then mark your calendar for our Black Friday sale, where you'll get 30% off on all of our Books and Courses, including our most popular product, PyImageSearch University annual membership, or you can buy everything we've ever produced and save over $5,000 USD. Now, onto how we copied Tiger Woods to help you become a world-class developer… We tend to agree with Mark Twain, who reportedly said, "Golf is a good walk spoiled." But that's probably because we spend more time perfecting our code than we do our stroke. However, if you did want to get better at golf, you should almost certainly follow Tiger Woods' example (no, not that one). You see, Tiger's father made young Tiger into an incredible, world-class golfer by making him a proponent of Deliberate Practice. And Deliberate Practice doesn't only work in the world of sports. In fact, you can become a world-class expert in OpenCV, Deep Learning, or any of the subjects available in PyImageSearch University — no matter where you're starting from today. If becoming world-class at far below the cost of an average OpenCV or Deep Learning course sounds too good to be true, you'd be right: There are no cheap ways to learn the skills you need to be a world-class OpenCV or Deep Learning practitioner. Except when our Black Friday sale rolls around… But before we get into that, let's look at what Deliberate Practice is and how you can use it to become world-class in your field. Psychologist Anders Ericsson was the first to coin the term when he discovered that experts in almost every field attain their elite performance directly from how they practice. Deliberate Practice chunks down whatever skills are required for greatness and has the seeker of greatness practice these parts repeatedly. For Tiger, that meant focusing on extremely specific situations like dropping balls into the sand trap, stomping on them, then trying to hit them onto the green. In other words: he made the most difficult shot in golf even harder than it normally would be, deliberately practicing this one shot over and over until he was better than anyone on the planet. There are stories of other pro golfers who will play three balls from every position while practicing to learn how different clubs and approaches work. That one approach to practice means they get 3X as much learning into a single round. Ericsson discovered that Deliberate Practice requires five things: - Focus on one specific area to improve — something an expert in your field does "effortlessly"
- Chunking down the 'thing' into step-by-step instructions
- Getting immediate feedback on your attempts
- Stretching your current limits
- Coaching from an expert
PyImageSearch University is built on the concepts of Deliberate Practice, ensuring that it's the fastest, most-effective approach for becoming an expert in Computer Vision, Deep Learning, and OpenCV. We're so big on the concept that we make sure: - Our courses focus on concepts one at a time (like Tiger's bunker shot).
- Topics are chunked-down, so you can pause and rewatch until you're a master.
- You can write code and compare it to how we coded projects, giving you immediate feedback.
- You can customize your curriculum and push your limits (stomping the ball into the sand) or start from the basics.
- You can access unlimited coaching via email support from a CV expert.*
*The last point is often the hardest part of Deliberate Practice and — to be clear — does NOT mean we'll solve all your problems. That's not what a coach does. We will, however, help get you on the right path and push you to keep stretching your limits. We hope you mark your calendars for Nov 24th for our big Black Friday sale and join University.
