Hello trend,
This is Satya Mallick from LearnOpenCV.com.
This week we have an interesting application inspired by Apple's Center Stage. What does it do? - It tracks the person and keeps them within the frame even if they move around in a video. In today's blog post we'll implement Center Stage functionality and integrate it with Zoom as a virtual camera so that you're never out of the frame in your zoom meetings!
It took us more than a few function calls to build the system and we're excited to show you the steps to achieve the same or improve the results even further! You will learn the following via this blog post:
- Face Detection in the video using Mediapipe
- Detecting and Tracking the Region of Interest (ROI)
- Video Stabilization using a library called VidStab for smoothing the transitions while changing the ROI.
- Creating and integrating a virtual camera with Zoom
Without further ado, let's get started.

Age Isn't a Barrier
I am 42, and most of my friends are middle-aged. These days I can hear a hint of midlife crisis in their conversations.
Many of my friends talk about burnout at a job they don't like, a promotion they did not get, a career that now looks mediocre, a crypto investment that did not lead to early retirement, or a relationship inching toward disintegration.
Some are burned out, but some are re-inventing themselves. Like the mythological bird, Phoenix, they are rising from the ashes!
That brings us to the story of a student who goes by the nickname AstroAndy. He recently sent me a heartwarming email.
What an amazing story!
Who cares if you fall as long as you jump back on your feet.
Who cares if you are starting late in life as long as you have the burning desire to learn something new and reinvent yourself.

Wow! It is such a beautiful note. Our course team loved it.
I have decided to find and save all such notes I have received in the last few years in a special Honors folder.
After all, as teachers, these thank-you notes are honors we can be genuinely proud of.
Cheers!
