From Kev, The Brand New Sage Barista Express Impress!
Hello fellow coffee botherers :-),
Sage have just launched a brand new espresso machine!!
Well, kind of. It's a new version of the Sage Barista Express - but I'm calling it a brand new machine, as the changes they've made here are fairly huge!
It assists you with the dose and the tamp.
If you're a home barista, you weigh your beans & you've either already developed a very consistent tamp or you're on your way to doing so, then this probably won't be of much interest to you.
If, however, you're one of the majority of espresso machine users, who don't want to faff about like that, you just want the machine to take care of this stuff for you, but you don't want to go down the full bean to cup machine route - then the Barista Express Impress was possibly made for you.
You put the portafilter into the grind cradle, and then you're prompted to grind more until you get a smiley face - you'll see from the lights whether you have too little or too high a dose.
Once you get that smiley face, the machine knows how long to grind for in future, so you no longer need to worry about the dose, each time you put the portafilter into the cradle you should get the correct amount of ground coffee, until you change coffee beans of course.
Also, when you press the tamp lever, the machine applies the same 10kg of pressure each time, and even performs the barista twist, polishing the surface of the puck.
Yeah there's still the grind size to adjust, but with two of the most important variables taken care of, I can't see how this isn't going to be a much easier machine for non home-baristas to get to grips with.
I'll have one here in the studio within the next couple of says, so I'll let you know exactly what I think of it once I've used it, but it's looking very impressive so far!
If you do decide to buy it, don't forget I have a discount code to share, so email me if you need that.
