Hey coffee lover,
If you've been to any third-wave coffee shop, you've probably seen a micro-lot coffee or two among their offerings. But what exactly is micro-lot coffee?
As with many things in the coffee industry, its definition isn't clear. It could be coffee grown on a small plot on a specific farm. Or it might be coffee that was processed at a washing station on a specific day.
The important thing is that it's traceable to the level of the farm/processing station -- even more so than single-origin coffee. This translates into unique aromas and flavor profiles in the cup. And as with anything that's limited in quantity and requires more time or effort to produce, they are more expensive too.
But what these micro-lot coffees offer is an exclusive insight into the terroir of the coffee-growing region. That's what conscientious roasters and coffee lovers are willing to pay a premium for.
