Hey coffee lover,
Coffee has a long and fascinating history, and some of it still influences how we talk about our morning brew today. One example: the story of why we call coffee "java."
It all started in the 17th century in the Arabian empire. The Arabs were growing coffee commercially and making so much money that they didn't want to lose their monopoly. In fact, anyone caught stealing coffee plants was officially prosecuted!
But some sneaky Dutch merchants managed to do it, and they smuggled the coffee to one of their colonies in Asia. The location of that colony? I'll give you three guesses.
Or just find the answer, and plenty of other interesting coffee-related tidbits, in our article...
