"You can only make good music in the relaxed state." —Rick Sanchez: Rick and Morty

It's true. You can only make good music in a relaxed state. That line came from Rick Sanchez, an animated character in the Rick and Morty series.

We believe Rick is right.

What does this all mean for you?

If you're not in a relaxed state when it comes to learning OpenCV, deep learning, or anything related to computer vision, you'll likely NEVER:

  • Learn new skills
  • Solve important problems
  • Achieve your dreams

Being in a relaxed state is that important.

In case you're not convinced by Rick Sanchez, here's a neuroimaging of the brain showing the disruption of learning pathways when the subject is stressed.

"The neuroscientific research about learning has revealed the negative impact of stress and anxiety and the qualitative improvement of the brain circuitry involved in memory and executive function that accompanies positive motivation and engagement." —source

If you are trying to DIY your learning journey or applying "internet answers" to your coding problem, you're probably stressed out.

And being stressed out does not allow you to be in a relaxed state.

We've found that most code we review doesn't work or doesn't work well. It might work in very narrow cases, but it's not likely to work in broad, real-world cases.

This means you're getting code that errors out, and you need to look up many different answers before you piece together a solution that will work.

Even if it does work, the code you find usually isn't well documented or performant. This makes your code slow, unreliable, and difficult to share with others.

Even worse, you might be working on the wrong things.

For instance, you might have dependencies that are causing problems with out-of-date libraries or drivers, making your computer run slow. You get frustrated staring at your monitor as your machine clunks through training, and you sit around and wait.

You might be working late, frustrated, tired, and on the verge of burnout because you're working on the wrong things or using bad code snippets.

Keep an eye out tomorrow because we are going to show you exactly how he was able to advance his career and knowledge even though he didn't go back to school, didn't take a break from work, and didn't sacrifice his family time in the process.
