It's World Milk Day! So we're sharing some of our top tips on how to steam milk at home.
Right jug: Pick the correct jug for the cup size.
Right milk: Choose semi skimmed or full fate milk for steaming. The higher protein content will give you a better texture for latte art. Keep your milk cold before stretching. Always stretch first while the milk is cold.
Don't over-stretch: Stretch (add air and bubbles into your milk) for just 3-4 seconds before lowering the steam wand into the jug to heat the rest of the milk.
Knock: Knock out any big bubbles before you swirl.
Swirl: Swirl the milk around in the jug until glossy and shiny, then pour.
Practice: Practice with cold water and a drop of washing up liquid.
Wipe that wand!: You must keep the steam wand clean. Purge before and after every steam. Wipe using a clean microfibre cloth which is only used for the steam wand.
We've got more milk steaming tips and a step by step guide to creating the perfect latte art texture on our website. Check it out!
