Hey coffee lover,
Women play extremely important and largely unheralded roles in the coffee industry. In honor of International Women's Day, we at Homegrounds are proud to highlight their important contributions in a longform article.
From the farm to the roaster to the coffee shop, women are intimately involved in the process that gets that delicious latte into your hands. They achieve this despite facing considerable hardships and discrimination when compared with their male counterparts.
For example, research shows that at the farm level, women do a large majority of the labor while receiving just a small minority of the profits.
That said, there are signs of progress. Female-led initiatives are working to make discirmination and inequality things of the past, and there is reason for optimism.
Read all about it in this thoroughly researched article. And then be sure to support some of the female owned and operated coffee businesses we highlight at the end.
