Hello once again, today I will be introducing you to some bugs and glitches of Scratch.
Bugs include :
Wrong Font Bug
No Last Post Bug
Disappearing Comment Bug
Trending Glitch
Percent Custom Block
Double Comments Bug
Automatic Logout Bug
X replacement Bug
Thumbnail bug
NAK bug
As you can see neither our world, nor the Scratch world is perfect. So today is the perfect day to talk to you about a few of these and other problems with Scratch. Wait how can today be perfect? Oh well, gotta find out...
TOP 6 MOST SERIOUS BUGS AND GLITCHES COUNTDOWN
6.Disappearing Comment Bug
Seriousness Scale: Minor-Moderate issues
Mainly found in Scratch 3.0, this bug causes profile, project, or studio comments to not show when attempting to view it. Sometimes, when a message is sent in the comment section, the comment will not appear . To fix this, do a hard refresh.- (I met this bug before)
Bad thing: It may lead you to send the message a few times, in which others might report you as spamming when you personally can't see the comment you've sent.
5. X replacement Bug
Seriousness Scale : No-Minor Issues
This bug makes "9"s into "X"s . But it is least commonly seen unless your project has something to do with numbers like a clicker game
Bad thing: It is not fixed as of yet.
4.Percentage Custom Block
Seriousness Scale: Moderate Issues
Found in the Scratch 3.0 project editor, naming a custom block "%" will result in Scratch not letting you press "ok."
Bad thing: After pressing cancel, there will be a mass of random blocks at the top of the block palette. You must refresh the project to fix the bug.
3.Thumbnail bug
Seriousness scale: Moderate-Severe Issues
Many Scratchers found out their projects' thumbnails became only a cat with a white background. This is seen in many projects and its reports are almost the most in all bugs. A simulation of this bug may be made within the animated project thumbnail set.
Bad thing: The exact cause is unknown but normally because Scratch is unable to load the image.
2. Broken Thumbnails and Profile Pictures
Seriousness Scale : Severe Issues
As of June , profile pictures and featured project thumbnails stopped showing. Many images were corrupted, so many images still could not load.
Bad thing: This was caused by a downtime and most people tried to reset their profile pictures.
1. Disabled Keyboard Bug
Seriousness Scale: OUT OF THIS WORLD ! (I can't seem to fit this into any category)
This bug, seen only in Scratch 2.0, caused Scratch to not react to key presses, which impacted projects that needed key presses to work and meant that Scratchers could not program, due to most blocks needing to have words typed in them to work correctly. This bug was only seen with Firefox.
Bad thing: There were, at the time, no ways to fix it forever, but it had been found that clicking outside Scratch (such as address bar) fixed it only temporarily.
HONOURABLE MENTIONS
Disappearing Text Bug - Distinction Award
-Causes text in the programme or in the blocks to disappear
2. Variables Not Fully Hiding- Merit Award
-Variables did not completely disappear from the Stage when hidden via the checkbox next to its name. The exact cause is uncertain.
Amazing, Isn't it ? We shall move on to the common but ridiculous world of errors
To the untrained mind, these errors will sweep you up like a pencil in a hurricane.
Thee errors are of such that we are all familiar with:
403 - Forbidden
404 - does not exist
500 - an internal error occurs, such as the server not responding, overloaded, or the Scratch Team doing tests without Maintenance Mode.
503 - Service Unavailable
Project Crash- If variables and lists get too long, there are too many clones, or the project is doing too many things at once (Mainly when input and output are not well balanced) - you may use Turbowarp to work around this
Incompatible Software or Hardware- Old operating systems, browsers, or system requirements can cause errors because they are incapable of running Scratch. So do renew them or use older versions of Scratch instead.
And a error for those new to Scratch :
Script Errors
Scripts can sometimes be made to do impossible things, like dividing by zero or changing the sprite position to a string when a script error occurs. The scripts simply skip the block with the error when they find one.
Is that all you may ask ? Yes.
Did you learn anything useful? Yes
Did you learn what are strings? No
So for the next lesson, bring along some strings ( No...not that kind)
