Hello trend,
Our Kickstarter campaign ends in 12 hours!
You have heard enough from me over the past one month about this campaign. If you have already backed the campaign, thanks a bunch. If you have no plans to back us, that's cool too.
But if you are on the fence, this is your last chance to jump in and start your AI journey. I wish you all the best, and hope to welcome you to our courses.
I WANT IN |
A PERSONAL NOTE & THANK YOU
The OpenCV library has a glorious history.
It's been around for 20 years, and it powers millions of computer vision applications in the real world. The first autonomous vehicle, Stanley, that won the DARPA grand challenge, and now displayed at the Smithsonian museum as part of American history, was also powered by OpenCV!
The visionary founders of OpenCV made it free for commercial use, and therefore everyone in computer vision greatly benefitted from it.
Because the library is and will always be free, OpenCV.org foundation was always remained strapped for cash.
When I became the CEO of OpenCV.org, the foundation had less money in their bank account that my monthly family expense. We were largely supported by the OpenCV team at our industry partners, the interns we get as part of Google Summer of Code, and occasional donation from large companies.
I had the option to beg for funds from large companies, or to develop OpenCV branded products that our community would support. I chose to reach out to our community.
It was a ridiculous idea at that time. I was told non-profit foundations do not raise money through Kickstarter campaigns.
It was a risky move.
In fact, I took the title of Interim CEO and an annual salary of $1 as a signal to the OpenCV board that I will step down if my gamble did not pay off. No, I did not wear a turtleneck and blue jeans to go with that title and salary.
It turned out to be the right move. Our community supported us - not once, not twice, but three times in last three years. This has enabled us to produce more free content than we ever did. Here is a list of things we have been able to offer for free
- OpenCV library
- OpenCV Forum
- Getting Started with OpenCV ( video )
- Getting Started with OpenCV blog series.
- OpenCV Weekly Webinar
- AI for Entrepreneurs Podcast
- OpenCV AI Competition
- Modelplace.AI
- CEO of OpenCV
I want to thank all the readers of the LearnOpenCV blog and users of the OpenCV library for making this possible. Next week we go back to publishing new and interesting posts every week. Stay tuned!
Cheers!
Satya
