"It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood" Bar when someone offers you a free shot
Of course, in a military town much like Charleston, Pensacola bars and clubs were just crawling with thirsty military guys. Oh, they like to drink too. This particular fellow whom has earned the name of this post was cutting up with a slew of buddies when I was waiting patiently for a drink at the bar. I didn't notice him looking at me until I heard "HEY! There's an extra shot here, you want it?"
Slightly startled from a stranger screaming almost directly in my left ear over the live punk rock band playing a couple yards away, I sized the shot before the person holding it. Then I looked to the bartender to ensure they had just poured it and then shrugged.
"What is it?"
"Kamikaze!" He shouted back. He shot his before mine could clink his glass. So I took it, slammed it back on the bar, and said thanks while retreating to the dance floor.
He followed me.
This ex fraternity, pre-pilot tried to keep up with me on the dance floor even though his intoxication surpassed his confidence. His "buddies" were watching so closely, I half expected one to take notes in the notepad of his phone. We conversed briefly while still keeping rhythm (well, at least one of us was).
"Can I kiss you?" He said through a smirk.
"Sir, I don't even know you."
"But I gave you a free shot," he pleaded. "It would be so nice!"
"Psh that was extra! My kisses are special; I don't just give them away."
"Well..." he stammered. "Can I at least get your number?"
"Don't really give it out. Espeically with all your buddies watching. Is this your game?"
He played dumb while I rolled my eyes, turning away from him.
"Okay, what about Insta or Snapchat?" He suggested.
Another eye roll and I relinquished it without another word. I waved a quick hand over my shoulder and flaunted out of the bar room. I was not here to be on stage, not to mention, I found it funny to show his audience he's not as smooth as he thinks leaning in an attempt to cash in a cheap vodka mixed shot.
I was the 3rd wheel on a date at a bar on the beach. Naturally, I escorted myself outside, put my toes in the sand, and photographed the night. Because I was feeling generous, I shared the moment with snapchat and received an instant comment. It was Mr. Kamikaze Hardback. The conversation was as constant as the waves and intrigue built. I was sold that I wanted to go out with him when he told me he too liked poetry.
"Psh. Who do you even like?"
"Hemmingway."
Fuck, I thought. Okay. O-KAY, hardback!
He actually looked a little like this pic but this model posting is taller, for certain. I agreed when he asked me out the second time and thought, I SUPPOSE I can give ANOTHER military guy a try.....
